Ah, the sorry state of American politics. Year after year, there’s never someone to vote for, only someone to vote against, and it looks like this year is shaping up to be the same old situation.
Though I consider myself an independent, I do tend to fall on the Republican side of most issues; that said, I will under no circumstances be voting for George W. Bush again this fall, for two basic reasons.
First of all, the Bush foreign policy, which is supposed to be fighting terrorists, is instead creating them as it runs roughshod over anything and everything that stands in the way of “American interests,” the rest of the world be damned. I’ve been overseas three times in the past six months, and I ask the same basic question to as many people as I can, from taxi drivers and college students to university professors and businessmen: What do you think of the U.S.? The reaction is always the same, universal contempt, without exception, literally. I fear what state the world will be in when my kids inherit it should this foreign policy be allowed to continue for four more years.
Secondly, there’s only one way to describe the Bush economic policy: utterly and totally irresponsible. I’m a fiscal conservative to the core, which means I believe in lower taxes, and I believe economies are best guided by the actions of individuals operating in free markets, not the actions of government dictating policy from up on high. But you absolutely, positively don’t raise spending when you lower taxes. It doesn’t take a genius to figure that one out, and Mr. Bush certainly can’t be accused of being one of those. Once again, this is a mistake my kids will be paying for, and at the rate the Bush administration is going, my kids’ kids will be too if this goes on for another four years.
I don’t usually indulge in politics here, but the title of that site was too good to pass up, and the rest of it kind of followed naturally. Mr. Kerry, I want to vote for you, not against Mr. Bush, and I get the sense there are a lot of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents like me. Reach out to us. Oh, and please give the “Benedict Arnold CEO” crap a rest!
I hear what your saying.
I tend to think that the prolbem with Bush is that so many people hate him, not that he’s doing *that* bad of a job, when you think about the last 4 people in office..
But I cant vote for Kerry, I’m scared to death that if lying sob wins, we will pull out of Iraq his second day in office saying “well, sorry we made a mess of things.. uhh.. later” good grief, if you think we have a terrorist problem now.. If I’m not mistaken we have done this so many times before thats a big reason why the world hates us.
What happned to Lieberman, is it too late to change our minds?
I agree heartily that a pullout from Iraq at this point would be disastrous. I also agree that we’ve done this way too many times in the past, and that this is a large part of the reason the rest of the world doesn’t trust us. However, I don’t have any worries that Kerry will do this. He says he won’t, and I believe him. He seems like he’d be a “status quo” sort of President–won’t do anything really bad, but won’t do anything really good either. The way I look at it, if we can find a new President who doesn’t do anything really bad, that gives us four more years to find the next one. As per the opening sentence, I’ll be waiting with baited breath.
I am uneasy about the war and spending but the social issues are so huge for me. It seems to me that the dems constituency is basically teachers, lawyers, and sexual deviants. My kids will suffer greatly and more immediatly (on the homefront) if these forces are allowed free reign as they had during the Clinton administrations.
I understand that many people are conflicted politically this year. There are alternatives to the ‘lesser of two weevils’ as you may be aware. Why would you not vote for a Libertarian?
Pending the resolution of litigation, I will be a congressional candidate this year. The fact that the political cartel of the two weevils have conspired to deprive you of alternatives may help explain why you are conflicted.
I support the free software movement and I appreciate your efforts. Yes, I use THAT awful OS also, but I keep my really important stuff on a linux system. No matter which way you decide to vote, keep going to make freedom software.

“Bush is one awful president. He couldn’t tell the….”
::sigh :: These people are lunatics and its almost imposable to have a political conversation with them.. There are many legitimate reasons for not supporting Bush (such as the Patriot Act or Immigration) but Doris.. my gawd… get a free-kin clue.
