I completed (OK, started) the migration to WordPress this morning, and everything appears to have gone smoothly. The migration process was relatively simple, and WordPress itself is very nice, much nicer than Movable Type.
Above and beyond the painless installation and relatively straightforward export-from-Movable-Type, import-to-WordPress migration, the only thing I had to do by hand was remove some line breaks (which WordPress apparently handles differently than Movable Type, resulting in weird looking entries) and fix a few non-UTF-8 characters in a few old posts.
I have some work to do yet. The site is still using the default look and feel, which I intend to change; and I’m working on putting redirects in place for the old Movable Type URLs (the old static pages remain in place for now, and I think I’ve gotten the most important redirects in place, like redirects for the RSS feeds). In the meantime, if you notice anything broken, please drop me an email. Thanks.
IMHO the grey background is a bit ugly :).
Well, it’s not *supposed* to look like that. I’m learning CSS by trial and error…
ah i see. look very nice now
I’m still not quite there yet, but I got rid of the grey anyway. :-)
Hi, I just wanted to ask how MT wasn’t meeting your needs… I work with the MT team, and I know they’d appreciate any feedback they can get to improve the product.
Anil,
When I’ve finished the migration, I’ll write up my rationale and experiences in a post and ping you.
