I had a great time on the Linux Link Tech Show last night (Ogg and MP3 available from TLLTS website). I come on around 19 minutes in, though in a clever and highly amusing plot twist, it takes them nearly 3 minutes before they successfully manage to call me. The nearly hour-long conversation covered a wide range of topics, including how I first discovered Linux; why I started Debian; what I’m doing these days at Progeny; Progeny’s Componentized Linux and the new Componentized Linux Platform Development Kit; the Linux Core Consortium and incompatibility in the RPM world; the comparative strength of Debian-derived distros with respect to compatibility and interoperability; the Ubuntu/Debian compatibility problem and averting “RPM hell” in the Debian world; the importance of working together, of compatibility, and of standards; the importance of commercial Linux; the Debian release management problem; and more.
Yes, we’re a bunch of idiots! :)
But in all honestly the problem is with skype. It seems some automated phone systems don’t hear the button tones from skype. Yesterday I worked from home and used skype to call into a teleconference. The system did register the key presses. I had to call the operator and have them connect me to the conference call. I’d be willing to try another voip application that’s better & cheaper than skype. Right now there isn’t one. We’ll check out other apps as they become available.
Others are having the the same problem with skype:
