Charles DiBona: “We think that Google poses a threat to Microsoft long-term by offering an alternate platform for application development. But we also believe that Microsoft recognizes this threat and is investing appropriately in its own operations to counter it.”
Hi Ian,
here it is. Google Earth: an excelente Google product for Linux, or GNU/Linux (some prefer). Not like Picasa (Wine powered). Lovely. This makes me feel really happy. Written for Linux as a platform. As a desktop platform. I don’t know the download numbers, but i suppose they are really minor compared to Microsoft version ones. But Google made the effort to write code (i love these two words: write code) specifically to GNU/Linux platform. And it works very well. I love using it on my desktop. Chris podcast on Twit is on a very good level. Keep the good work. So this is my way of “praising” Google for this one, on behalf of that comments on Picasa for Linux some weeks ago, here at “your house” (blog) :-)
So, article related, i think Chris has a point. Of course no one knows the tomorrow, but “this” tomorrow starts being built today. And Google may be imagined as a child :) I can’t imagine in 5 years how will it be. Nor 10. Really can’t. But it is a human company. I feel it. Built by human engineers, mostly software engineers writting code. Good code. Great code, we all expect. The world can really be a better place, i hope to see my beloved daughter growing in a better world. And now, software can really help building a better place for us all.
