Red Hat Creates Fedora Foundation

eWEEK: Red Hat Creates Fedora Foundation.

Very interesting, and potentially a very good move, though Red Hat has to be prepared that an independent Fedora project is naturally going to evolve into a competitor to their Enterprise Linux products.

Tucked away in the article, though, is a very interesting statement from Red Hat deputy general council Mark Webbink:

Asked if there was any Fedora technology or patented technology that would not be available to the community, Webbink said there was not at this point, but “as we go forward, non-technology-related things like business method patents we register will not be available to the community.”

That never even would have occurred to me. I wonder what kind of business method patents he has in mind?

P.S. – I’d be interested in a board position. I have experience doing this sort of thing, and my company supports Red Hat-based distributions, so I’m definitely an interested party.
