Indiana rejoins the union

The Indianapolis Star: “Daylight-saving time is coming to all of Indiana for the first time in more than 30 years. In a history-making drama, the Indiana House voted 51-46 late Thursday to pass the controversial issue, which has dominated the legislature, coffee shops and kitchen tables for four months. […] Some argued the changes are needed to boost Indiana in a global economy and erase the state’s backward image. Others called it an unnecessary intrusion in Hoosiers’ lives.”

So, we’re one step closer to finally figuring out what time it is in Indiana and, hopefully, one step closer to eradicating the misconception that Indiana is a backwater. It’s about time too (no pun intended :-). Try running a business in Indiana and doing something simple like scheduling a conference call with someone in another state. Duh.

Let’s hope this is just the first in a series of positive changes from our new governor that will finally bring this state into the 21st century business-wise. Our leaders have been talking the talk for a long time, and it’s nice to see them taking the first steps toward walking the walk.

If you want to join the 21st century then the entire country needs to get rid of daylight saving time. Pick a time and stick with it.

Seconded. DST was designed for a time when 1) artificial lighting at night was a luxury, and 2) bedtimes/end-of-working times had something to do with the presence of the sun in the sky. It’s not worth the trouble anymore.

The fact that artificial lighting is no longer a luxury is no reason not to want to conserve energy. Or not to like daylight more than a Philips lightbulb. I see absolutely no problems, and a few advantages, to dst.
